Qoitech, a company based in Sweden, has made a significant move to enhance the adoption of its battery profiling tools by eliminating the annual license fee. This decision aims to encourage more developers to leverage the technology in their projects. Qoitech specializes in developing power analysis, profiling, and optimization tools tailored for embedded systems. These tools play a crucial role in accurately matching power sources to IoT devices and simulating real-world operating conditions.

One of the key benefits of utilizing Qoitech's tools is the potential to extend the lifespan of devices by eliminating or minimizing the need to replace batteries frequently. This can lead to a significant reduction in energy wastage, which often accounts for up to 50% of the original battery capacity. As battery life remains a critical challenge for many designers, the ability to profile the performance of cells based on factors like temperature and specific current drain is becoming increasingly essential.

Vanja Samuelsson, a representative of Qoitech, emphasized the company's commitment to prolonging the lifespan of electronics. By bringing profiling capabilities to the benchtop and integrating them into the entire development stack for continuous integration and software deployment, Qoitech aims to empower users with data-driven insights to make informed decisions. Samuelsson highlighted the importance of collaboration with battery manufacturers to further enhance the technology.

The company's decision to waive the $199 annual license subscription for the Pro version of its software suite, now upgraded to Otii Software 3.5, is a significant development. Users can now access all Pro features for Otii Ace and Otii Arc test hardware at no cost. These features include simultaneous recording of multiple power profiles, unlimited recording time, UART debugging, and various other functions.

Qoitech's Otii Ace Pro and Otii Arc Pro devices combine multiple functionalities, including a power profiler, DC energy analyzer, smart power supply, digital multimeter, source measure unit, and power debugger in a single unit. The Otii Arc Pro offers a power supply up to 5 V with a sampling rate of 4ksps, while the Otii Ace Pro extends this to 25 V with a sampling rate of up to 50 ksps. These tools are instrumental in evaluating the dynamic power profiles of IoT-embedded systems and the power characteristics of batteries and energy harvesting systems.
