Electrocube Introduces Metallised Polypropylene Film Capacitors for High Power Inverters

Electrocube, a leading manufacturer of electronic components, has recently unveiled a new series of metallised polypropylene film capacitors specifically designed for high power inverters used in military and commercial applications on land and sea.

These capacitors come in voltage ratings of 400, 600, and 1,000V, with capacitances ranging from 100nF to 10μF. The 400V range also includes options for 15μF and 20μF capacitances.

"Able to handle high surge currents without degrading, Electrocube's 985B is a rugged, non-inductively wound double metallised high-current capacitor series," stated NewYorker Electronics, a trusted distributor of electronic components. "These capacitors are designed and optimized for high temperature, high current applications subject to AC and pulsing signals. Their ability to handle high surge currents without degrading makes them an excellent replacement for electrolytic capacitors."

The capacitors are housed in axially leaded cases with an oval cross-section. For example, the body of a 400V 5μF device measures approximately 19 x 24 x 43mm. At 600V, the dimensions increase to 23.6 x 29 x 55mm, and at 1kV, they measure 49 x 55 x 57mm.

These capacitors have a current rating of around 16A and an equivalent series resistance (ESR) of approximately 8Ω at 100kHz. For specific values, it is recommended to refer to the data sheet.

Operating within a temperature range of -55 to +105°C at the rated voltage, these capacitors are recommended for use up to 100kHz. They can withstand 150% of the DC rated voltage for one minute at 25°C, and 140% at 85°C for 250 hours, with no more than one failure in 12. A 5mA limit applies in both cases.

The dissipation factor at 1kHz is ≤1% at 25°C, and the dielectric absorption is ≤0.1% at 25°C per MIL-C-19978. Additionally, the series is manufactured with a protective clear wrap, and the epoxy end-fills meet the flammability requirements of UL94V0.

Electrocube offers both RoHS-compliant and non-RoHS versions of these capacitors, with some value restrictions. Customizations, including circular bodied construction and lower dissipation factor, are also possible.

These high-quality capacitors find applications in various industries, including solar, wind, and steam-power generation, avionics, electric vehicles, and robotics.
