Kulr, a company based in the US, has secured a deal to provide its NASA-certified M35A battery cells for integration into a commercial spaceflight programme by a US customer. These cells have already been utilized in NASA’s Artemis II mission and are a key component of Kulr’s 400 Wh K1 Space battery, which is nearing completion and is scheduled to undergo a safety board review by NASA in the near future. The M35A cells boast an impressive energy density of 214 watt-hours per kilogram at C/20 and -20°C, making them well-suited for the challenging conditions of space missions.

Manufactured to meet NASA’s stringent 20793 standards, the M35A cells underwent production in December. Each individual cell is meticulously traceable, with detailed screening data, lot numbers, and serial numbers provided for full transparency and quality assurance. This level of accountability ensures that the cells meet the highest industry standards while also being cost-effective, a point emphasized by KULR CEO Michael Mo.

Michael Mo expressed his pride in delivering cutting-edge energy solutions that not only meet industry benchmarks but also offer practicality and efficiency. The selection of KULR’s M35A cells by a prominent private space company serves as a strong validation of their performance capabilities. The ongoing collaboration between KULR, NASA, and commercial partners positions the company at the forefront of energy innovation tailored for space applications.

As part of its commitment to advancing energy solutions for aerospace and defense, KULR is actively engaged in expanding America’s Strategic Battery Reserve. This strategic initiative aims to enhance access to 20793-compliant cell formats and technologies, ultimately expediting the availability of top-tier energy solutions for critical applications in the aerospace and defense sectors.

The utilization of the M35A cells in a commercial spaceflight programme underscores the trust placed in KULR’s technology and expertise. With a focus on meeting the demanding requirements of space missions, KULR continues to drive innovation in the field of energy solutions, solidifying its position as a key player in the space industry.
