Marvell Co-Founder and Chiplet Pioneer Sehat Sutardja Passes Away at 63

Marvell, a highly successful fabless chip company, has been making waves in the industry for its innovative approach to chip manufacturing. On the other hand, Silicon Box, a foundry operation based in Singapore, is pioneering chiplet-style manufacturing and has recently announced plans to expand its operations to Europe.

Sehat Sutardja, one of the co-founders of Marvell, has a rich history in the semiconductor industry. After graduating from college in Jakarta in 1980, Sutardja pursued further studies in the US, eventually founding Marvell with his brother Pantas Sutardja and wife Weili Dai in 1995. His engineering prowess and entrepreneurial spirit have been instrumental in Marvell's success, propelling the company to become one of the top 20 chip companies globally.

In 2016, Sutardja and Dai stepped down from their roles at Marvell following an internal accounting investigation. Despite the challenges, they continued to make significant contributions to the industry by fostering a network of startup companies focused on chiplet-style advanced packaging. Silicon Box, Alphawave, Blue Cheetah Analog Design, DreamBig, and Expedera are among the notable ventures that have emerged from this ecosystem.

With a focus on innovation and collaboration, Silicon Box has been actively expanding its portfolio. The company recently provided more details about its Italian venture, highlighting its commitment to pushing the boundaries of chiplet manufacturing.
