Expanding its product range, Taoglas® is introducing new options for design engineers working on high-precision GNSS applications with the expansion of its TFM series of multi-band GNSS front-end modules. These modules are designed to simplify and accelerate product development by providing a seamless integration solution for multi-band antennas and GNSS receivers. Acting as a bridge between the antenna and RF module, the TFM modules feature a two-stage cascaded filter and low noise amplifier (LNA) topology, housed in a compact, shielded, surface-mount package.

According to Taoglas CEO, Dermot O’Shea, using TFM modules can save designers significant time in the development process. O’Shea highlights that utilizing these modules can potentially reduce development time by at least six months compared to designing active circuitry on the PCB from scratch. This time-saving aspect allows engineers to focus more on other aspects of their design, ultimately speeding up the time to market for their GNSS applications.

One of the key advantages of the TFM modules is the integration of impedance matching, filters, and LNAs into a single package. This integrated approach helps in attenuating out-of-band signals with pre-filters and maintaining an optimal noise figure throughout the signal chain with LNAs. The high-gain architecture of the modules, which includes cascaded LNAs with pre-filters and optimized impedance matching, provides a minimum of 25 dB gain to the GNSS receiver.

With 1 dB compression points of -31 dBm or better, depending on the model and frequency, the TFM modules offer flexibility in design. Operating from a DC input voltage of 1.8 to 5.5 VDC, these modules cater to a wide range of design requirements. Additionally, the compact and low-profile nature of the shielded, surface-mount package measuring 15- x 15- x 2.7-mm saves space and eliminates the need for external components, further simplifying the integration process.

By leveraging Taoglas’ years of experience in designing circuits for antennas, engineers can trust in the reliability and accuracy of the GNSS data when using the TFM modules. This expertise ensures that designers receive a best-in-class product that meets their performance expectations. Overall, the expansion of the TFM series offers design engineers a comprehensive solution for developing high-precision GNSS applications efficiently and effectively.
