New 650V Industrial CoolSiC MOSFETs Offered in TOLT and Thin-TOLL Packages

Infineon Technologies has recently unveiled its latest innovation in the form of 650V silicon carbide MOSFETs, specifically designed for industrial applications and AI power supplies. The introduction of the Thin-TOLL 8×8 and TOLT packages marks a significant advancement in power supply technology, offering enhanced performance and efficiency.

The new product families, based on the CoolSiC Generation 2 (G2) technology, cater to high and medium switching-mode power supplies used in various sectors such as AI servers, renewable energy, EV chargers, and large home appliances. These packages have been meticulously crafted to optimize space on PCB mainboards and daughter cards, while also addressing thermal requirements and space constraints.

The Thin-TOLL package, with its compact 8×8 mm form factor, boasts best-in-class Thermal Cycling on Board (TCoB) capability, setting a new standard in the market. On the other hand, the TOLT package, featuring top-side cooling (TSC), offers similar dimensions to TOLL and ensures efficient heat dissipation.

Developers working on AI and server power supply units (PSU) can benefit significantly from these innovative packages, as they enable the reduction of daughter card dimensions and facilitate the use of flat heat sinks. Whether applied in microinverters, 5G PSU, TV PSU, or SMPS, the Thin-TOLL 8×8 package helps minimize the PCB area occupied by power supply devices on the mainboard, while the TOLT package effectively manages junction temperatures, especially in applications utilizing convection cooling.

Infineon's comprehensive industrial portfolio now includes the TOLT devices alongside the 750V CoolSiC in a Q-DPAK package, offering developers flexibility in selecting the most suitable package based on their specific power delivery requirements. This expansion underscores Infineon's commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for a wide range of applications.

The CoolSiC MOSFETs 650V G2 in ThinTOLL 8×8 and TOLT configurations are currently available with R DS(on) values ranging from 20 to 60 mΩ, with the TOLT variant also offering a 15 mΩ option. Infineon plans to further enhance this product family with a more extensive portfolio by the end of 2024, ensuring that customers have access to a diverse range of solutions to meet their evolving needs.
