POET samples 800G optical engine for datacentre interconnect

POET Technologies, based in Canada, has announced that it is currently sampling its AI optical engine to three global customers, with notable names including Foxconn and Luxshare. The company has unveiled the final design samples of its POET Infinity transmit product line, catering to 400G and 800G applications. These products utilize the CMOS-compatible optical interposer and encompass formats such as 400G FR4, 800G 2xFR4, and 800G DR8 transmit formats. The assembly of these products is taking place at a high-volume production facility in Malaysia, managed by Silterra.

The FR4 optical engines from POET incorporate the multiplexer and can be seamlessly paired with POET receiver engines, resulting in a highly integrated pluggable transceiver. Customers of POET have already begun designing and constructing pluggable transceivers using a two-chip solution for 400G and a three-chip solution for 800G. This strategic move aims to enhance the efficiency and performance of the transceiver modules.

It has been reported that the receive optical engines have successfully passed the qualification process. The availability of the transmit engine samples is expected to accelerate the shipment of completed modules to end customers for further qualification. POET anticipates receiving production orders for these modules in the latter half of 2025, marking a significant milestone for the company.

POET has established strong partnerships with key industry players such as Foxconn Interconnect Technologies (FOIT) and Luxshare Tech, both renowned for supplying network equipment, systems, and components to hyperscale data centers. These collaborations are pivotal in developing high-speed solutions to meet the growing demand for 800Gbps and higher speed transceivers in the market.
