Rapidus Collaborates with Tenstorrent to Develop AI Edge Semiconductor IP

Rapidus, a company that is in the process of setting up a 2nm foundry in Japan, has announced a partnership with Tenstorrent, a Toronto-based semiconductor company, to develop AI edge semiconductor intellectual property (IP).

Tenstorrent's CEO, Jim Keller, who has an impressive background in designing integrated circuits (ICs) for renowned companies such as DEC, Harris, AMD, PA Semi, Apple, Tesla, and Intel, leads the company. Tenstorrent has successfully raised $334 million in funding.

Tenstorrent is known for its focus on utilizing RISC-V architectures for its chips. In April, the company welcomed Intel Chief Architect Raja Koduri to its team, further strengthening its expertise in the field.

In addition to this collaboration, Tenstorrent recently secured a deal with LG to manufacture TV chips. The company is also targeting data center ICs, expanding its reach into various sectors.

"We are both unique startup companies, and I am confident that this collaboration will lead to major innovations based on AI," says Rapidus CEO Atsuyoshi Koime, expressing his optimism about the partnership.

Rapidus began construction of its fab in September, with plans for pilot production in April 2025 and volume production in 2027. The company's commitment to advancing semiconductor technology aligns with its vision to contribute to the development of AI-driven solutions.
