Vicor has introduced a new line of scalable DC-DC converter modules designed for 48V to 12V systems, boasting an impressive power density of 5kW/in3 up to 2kW. The DCM3717 and DCM3735 non-isolated DC-DC power modules are specifically tailored to support power delivery networks (PDNs) ranging from 750W to 2kW in 48V systems. These modules offer enhanced power system efficiency and density when compared to traditional 12V systems.

Operating within a 40V to 60V input range, the modules can generate a regulated output adjustable from 10V to 12.5V, making them ideal for various industrial applications. The DCM3717 family, measuring 37mmx17mmx5.2mm, comes in two power ranges of 750W and 1kW. On the other hand, the DCM3735 is wider at 37mmx35mmx5.2mm and offers a higher output of 2kW. These modules can be easily used in parallel to quickly scale system power levels, and their low-profile SM-ChiP surface-mount package is thermally optimized for simplified thermal management system design.

Like other 48V power modules, the non-isolated DCM modules can be paired with the Vicor BCM high-voltage fixed-ratio bus converter family, which facilitates the conversion from high voltages (800V and 400V) to 48V. Once a 48V bus is established, these modules efficiently convert the power from 48V to a regulated 12V, ensuring seamless power delivery.

Industries such as battery formation and test (BFT) and semiconductor automated test equipment (ATE) are increasingly transitioning to 48V PDNs for improved performance. Some BFT setups have been optimized for 12V conversion to the battery cell load and may not be easily re-engineered for 48V. By utilizing the DCM3717/3735 DC-DC converter modules, engineers working on BFT systems can maintain their existing infrastructure investments by bridging the gap between 48V and 12V, creating a robust 48V power delivery network.

The DCM3717S60E13G5TN1 (750W) and DCM3717S60D13K0TN1 (1000W) non-isolated DC-DC converter modules are currently available in the market, while the DCM3735S60D13L0TN1 (2000W) is expected to be released later this year, offering a comprehensive range of options to meet varying power requirements.
