Flow Computing, a Helsinki-based startup, is at the forefront of revolutionizing CPU performance with its groundbreaking architecture known as the Parallel Processing Unit (PPU). This innovative technology has the potential to boost CPU performance by up to 100-fold, thanks to the integration of PPU on-die through a license from Flow. What sets the PPU apart is its full compatibility with existing software applications for the CPU architecture, allowing for a seamless transition without the need for extensive software changes.

Moreover, the more PPU cores integrated on-die, the greater the performance enhancement achieved. Flow has strategically optimized licenses for various segments of the CPU market, including mobile, PC, and supercomputers. Notably, Flow's technology complements the entire device motherboard and peripheral boards, benefiting not only the CPU but also other connected units such as matrix units, vector units, NPUs, and GPUs, resulting in a holistic performance boost across the system.

Flow Computing has already initiated discussions with major semiconductor vendors worldwide in pursuit of the next-generation CPU performance breakthrough. Technical details regarding this cutting-edge technology are set to be unveiled to the public in the latter half of 2024, generating significant anticipation within the industry.

Participating entities in Flow's pre-seed round include prominent names like Butterfly Ventures, FOV Ventures, Sarsia, Stephen Industries, Superhero Capital, and Business Finland. As a spinout from the esteemed VTT Technical Research Center of Finland, Flow Computing retains an equity stake, with all patented intellectual property developed over the years officially transferred to the company.

"We firmly believe that there have been only incremental improvements in CPU performance over the past few decades, leading to the CPU becoming the weakest link in computing due to its sub-optimal sequential architecture," stated Timo Valtonen, co-founder, and CEO of Flow Computing, emphasizing the critical need for a paradigm shift in CPU design.

Flow Computing's mission is to empower the next generation of CPU performance for demanding applications, including locally-hosted AI and general-purpose parallel computing. The company's patented PPU architecture and compiler ecosystem offer developers the flexibility to prioritize raw performance for new applications or maintain compatibility with legacy code when necessary. This revolutionary technology not only enhances embedded systems and data centers but also caters to diverse sectors such as edge and cloud computing, AI clouds, multimedia codecs for 5G/6G networks, autonomous vehicle systems, and military-grade computing.
