LiquidStack, a leading provider of liquid cooling solutions, has introduced the first in a series of universal coolant distribution units (CDU) designed specifically for Direct-to-Chip (DTC) liquid cooling applications.
The LiquidStack CDU-1MW is a groundbreaking product that offers compatibility with a wide range of commercial DTC systems in data centers. This innovative solution is aimed at efficiently cooling chips used in generative AI, large language models, and high-performance computing (HPC) applications.
As the adoption of liquid cooling technology in data centers continues to grow, there has been a surge in demand for standardized, DTC-optimized CDUs. Analysts at Omdia have noted that the availability of such units has been limited due to production capacity constraints. The CDU-1MW has been developed in close collaboration with major data centers and chip designers, and it is proudly manufactured in Texas.
Featuring a cooling capacity of up to 1,350kW, the CDU-1MW is capable of supporting the latest AI processors, such as the Nvidia Blackwell GPU, which can require up to 2kW of power. LiquidStack has also announced plans to launch additional CDU versions in 2025 to cater to evolving industry needs.
Joe Capes, CEO of LiquidStack, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering cutting-edge liquid cooling solutions, stating, "With a singular focus on liquid cooling, we deliver unparalleled expertise and innovation, providing the most advanced solutions, such as the CDU-1MW, for data centers and high-performance computing environments."
The DTC liquid cooling system not only enhances cooling efficiency for high-performance workloads but also contributes to reducing energy consumption. The universal CDU-1MW is ETL and CE certified, and it undergoes full-load testing by a third party to ensure optimal performance. This solution is ideal for hyperscalers, colocation service providers, and large enterprises looking to implement DTC solutions as part of their hybrid cooling strategies.
The CDU interface is equipped with a programmable logic controller (PLC) that offers intuitive controls and monitoring tools for seamless management. It features N+1 redundancy with hot-swappable dual pump operation, top and bottom stainless steel piping kits, and optional redundancy for temperature, pressure, flow meter, and expansion tank components.
Nick Schweissguth, Global Director of Product Management at LiquidStack, highlighted the company's dedication to incorporating the latest cooling technologies into their products, stating, "Our exclusive commitment to liquid cooling ensures that LiquidStack products incorporate the latest advancements and best practices in cooling technology. The CDU-1MW is built to withstand the rigors of the highest performance environments, enabling large-scale data center operators to de-risk AI deployments via rapid integration to existing direct-to-chip systems."
In addition to the CDU-1MW, LiquidStack offers a diverse portfolio of liquid cooling solutions, including single-phase and two-phase immersion cooling systems, as well as MacroModular and MicroModular prefabricated data centers. The CDU-1MW is now available for order, providing data center operators with a reliable and efficient solution for their liquid cooling needs.
