RISC-V Power Controller Integrates Flash Memory

Eggtronic, a leading technology company based in Italy, has recently unveiled an innovative addition to its EPIC RISC-V mixed-signal power controller. The new Eggtronic RISC-V EPIC 2.0 Flash series is designed to provide enhanced flexibility throughout the design process, enabling Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to streamline their inventory management by utilizing the same low-power, mixed-signal IC across various applications.

The Eggtronic Power Integrated Controller (EPIC) family is specifically engineered to optimize performance, enhance efficiency from low-load to full-load operation, reduce standby power consumption, and minimize component count and form factor in high-performance power converter and wireless power transmission systems.

One of the key features of the controller is its integration of reprogrammable flash memory, which allows for a versatile internal structure supporting control of both standard and proprietary power conversion architectures. This advancement opens up a wide array of possibilities for consumer and industrial applications, including USB-PD and Qi charging, AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies, motion control, lighting, and wireless power transmission at power ratings of up to 10 kW.

According to Igor Spinella, the CEO and founder of Eggtronic, the introduction of the new EPIC 2.0 Flash series aims to simplify and expedite the design process for engineers while reducing the number of ICs that OEMs are required to maintain in inventory. Spinella highlighted the benefits of starting with the Flash version for risk mitigation before seamlessly transitioning to a cost-efficient OTP EPIC for production. This approach allows OEMs to stock a single, general-purpose part number for multiple applications, with specific functionalities added through flash reprogramming either pre-mounting or directly in-circuit.

The RISC-V EPIC2ATxxx flash version is fully compatible with all existing Eggtronic firmware developed for the EPIC2ACxxx OTP version.
