Leading UK semiconductor design house Sondrel is appointing a new chief executive, its third in a just over a year.
Oliver Jones, the vice president of sales and marketing at the company, will succeed John Chubb as CEO from today. This is a planned leadership transition that comes as Sondrel prepares to enter its next phase of growth and advancement.
Chubb took on the CEO role in July to complete a major company-wide transformation programme that saw the company go private with a private equity investor after founding CEO Graham Curren stepped down. Chubb also renegotiated major supplier contracts.
Jones joined the company, which is working on 3nm chip designs, last year from ill-fated UK battery startup Britishvolt where he was chief commercial officer. He previously held senior roles at GKN ePowertrain and GKN Automotive, which is key for the Sondrel chip designs for automotive.
“It has been a privilege to lead Sondrel through this critical period of transformation,” said Chubb, who will continue to provide support to the leadership team. “I’m proud of what our team has accomplished in completing the restructuring programme we began this year. I’m confident that Ollie’s leadership will drive Sondrel to new heights. The company is well-positioned for its next chapter of growth.”
“John and the team have built a powerful foundation and I look forward to working with our talented employees, partners, and customers to capitalise on the opportunities ahead,” said Jones.
“We are thankful for John’s strong leadership during this transitional period,” said Chairman David Mitchard. “His efforts have been instrumental in positioning Sondrel for future success. We are excited for Ollie to step up to the role – his expertise and vision will be invaluable as we embark on our next phase of growth.”
