Astrolight, a space communications startup based in Vilnius, Lithuania, has recently become a part of Nato's Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA). This move signifies the company's entry into the defense sector with its cutting-edge dual-use laser communication technology.

Specializing in space-to-Earth and ship-to-ship laser communications, Astrolight aims to revolutionize tactical communication between navy ships. By developing products for optical comms, the company seeks to enable communication without relying on traditional radio systems.

The company has already embarked on a project with the Lithuanian Naval Flotilla, responding to the evolving demands of the operational environment in the Baltic Sea. Justinas Žukauskas, Lieutenant Commander of the Lithuanian Navy, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in enhancing operational stealth through laser technology.

As part of its partnership with DIANA, Astrolight plans to collaborate with NATO and other defense stakeholders to adapt its laser communication terminals for terrestrial applications. This strategic move aligns with the company's goal of expanding its innovative technology into new domains.

Laurynas Mačiulis, co-founder and CEO of Astrolight, highlighted the importance of the partnership with NATO DIANA in facilitating the transition of the company's expertise into the defense sector. The program will provide guidance on defense-specific requirements and support in adapting space-developed products for terrestrial applications, particularly focusing on enhancing communication capabilities between navy ships.
