Collaboration between SureCore and Intrinsic to Accelerate Time to Market for Intrinsic's ReRAM Technology
SureCore and Intrinsic have joined forces to expedite the time to market for Intrinsic's revolutionary ReRAM technology. Intrinsic's ReRAM offers a solution to the challenges faced by System-on-Chip (SoC) developers who are in search of an embedded non-volatile storage option for 22nm and smaller nodes. This technology boasts numerous advantages, including flash-like density combined with SRAM access times.
Scaling flash memory beyond 28nm has become increasingly difficult, leading to the exploration of new memory technologies to bridge the gap. The automotive industry, in particular, is closely monitoring these developments as the pursuit of increased autonomy necessitates higher processing power and greater embedded memory.
Developers of advanced microcontrollers are confronted with a significant challenge as flash memory no longer scales with logic. Building both technologies on the same chip is impractical, forcing vendors to consider a two-chip solution, which is far from ideal in terms of power consumption.
Intrinsic aims to address this problem by providing a non-volatile memory that can be easily integrated into the same advanced process nodes as the logic. This approach significantly reduces power consumption and eliminates potential data bandwidth bottlenecks and latency issues associated with using off-chip flash memory.
Intrinsic's technology offers data read speeds that are 10 to 100 times faster and write speeds that are 1000 times faster than existing solutions. Additionally, it is fabricated using standard processing techniques at the back-end-of-line, making it less complex and more cost-effective than other ReRAM solutions. These features, combined with its flash-like density and high temperature resilience, make it an especially attractive option.
"Intrinsic has developed a groundbreaking memory technology that allows developers to leverage the density and performance of more advanced nodes and integrate its scalable non-volatile memory solution," says Paul Wells, CEO of SureCore. "With our extensive expertise in optimizing on-chip memory through our SureFIT Custom SRAM Design Service, it was a natural progression for us to extend this service to incorporate Intrinsic's ReRAM technology and utilize our design environment to provide the necessary verification and characterization environments that underpin the value of a compiler."
Mark Dickinson, CEO of Intrinsic, adds, "The sureCore SureFIT service is supported by a suite of powerful tools that will save us many years of development effort that would have been required if we had to create similar solutions from scratch."
