The collaboration between TE Connectivity and Texas Instruments has resulted in a significant advancement in automotive video technology. The GEMnet connectors and cable assemblies from TE Connectivity are now compatible with Texas Instruments FPD-Link IV devices, enabling high bandwidth video links with near-zero latency.

This partnership allows the TE GEMnet connector system to seamlessly integrate with TI FPD-Link IV SerDes semiconductors, facilitating the transmission of high-resolution, uncompressed video and bidirectional control over lightweight cable assemblies and connectors in the automotive environment.

As automotive infotainment panels evolve to include pillar-to-pillar displays, the demand for improved screen resolution and color depth is on the rise. Car manufacturers are striving to enhance the clarity and crispness of displays to meet consumer expectations. This necessitates the transmission of larger quantities of data to multiple locations within vehicles while maintaining low latencies.

Texas Instruments' FPD-Link IV high-speed automotive SerDes technology is designed to support high-bandwidth automotive processors for display applications, including ultra-high definition resolutions such as 4K, 5K, and 8K. These chips seamlessly interface with TE's GEMnet connectors and cables, specifically engineered to support Multigigabit Ethernet and SerDes applications over long distances.

"At TE, we are dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of the automotive industry," stated Nick Defensor, product manager at TE. "Our collaboration with Texas Instruments showcases our commitment to providing solutions that not only address current vehicle requirements but also enhance the overall driver experience."

Andrew Glenny, business manager for FPD-Link at Texas Instruments, emphasized the long-standing partnership between TE and Texas Instruments in supporting global OEMs. The integration of TE's GEMnet connector system with FPD-Link devices enables engineers to optimize high-speed data transfer in automotive systems, supporting resolutions up to 4K and beyond with data rates exceeding 10Gbps.

The TE GEMnet connector system offers extensive support for Ethernet and SerDes applications, catering to various industry protocols and automotive needs such as 4K displays, radar/lidar systems, high-resolution cameras, and safety-critical applications. With features like 90° and 180° terminals, sealed and unsealed product types, and compatibility with different cable types, this connector system provides automotive manufacturers with a versatile solution for a wide range of applications.

Overall, the collaboration between TE Connectivity and Texas Instruments represents a significant step forward in enhancing automotive video links and supporting the growing demands of modern vehicle architectures. By combining cutting-edge technology with industry expertise, both companies are poised to drive innovation and improve the performance of automotive systems for the benefit of drivers and passengers alike.
