TSMC Chairman Steps Down, CEO Takes the Helm

TSMC, the world's leading semiconductor manufacturer, made a significant announcement today regarding its leadership. Chairman Dr. Mark Liu has decided not to seek nomination for the next term and will retire from the company after the 2024 Annual Shareholders Meeting.

The Nominating, Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee of the board has recommended that vice chairman Dr. C.C. Wei succeed Dr. Liu as the company's next Chairman, subject to the election of the incoming board in June 2024.

Dr. Liu has been an integral part of TSMC since joining in 1993. He assumed the role of chairman in June 2018, following the retirement of founder Dr. Morris Chang. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Liu has focused on enhancing corporate governance and competitiveness, with a particular emphasis on technology leadership, digital excellence, and global footprint.

In a statement, Dr. Liu expressed his gratitude to the talented team at TSMC, who have played a crucial role in making the company a global leader. He said, "The past 30 years with TSMC has been an extraordinary journey for me. It has been a privilege to serve as Chairman after our legendary Founder Dr. Morris Chang for such a world-renowned enterprise. I now would like to give my decades of semiconductor experience to other use, spend more time with my family, and start the next chapter of my life."

Dr. Liu also expressed confidence in TSMC's future, stating that he will continue to oversee corporate governance with the board until the end of his term. He believes that the company will continue to perform outstandingly in the years to come.
