Septentrio, a division of Hexagon, has introduced the mosaic-G5 modules, the smallest GNSS receivers in its lineup, measuring a mere 23 mm by 16 mm and weighing as little as 2.2 grams. These ultra-compact receivers are designed to cater to the needs of commercial UAVs, robots, and various other size- and power-constrained industrial applications, offering reliable, high-accuracy positioning without sacrificing performance.

The advanced GNSS technology integrated into the mosaic-G5 receivers ensures enhanced positioning availability even in challenging environments where GNSS signals may be degraded or obstructed. This development marks a significant step forward in meeting the increasing demand for precise and reliable positioning, as well as GNSS heading capabilities, in high-volume drone and robotic applications.

According to François Freulon, the Director of Product Management at Septentrio, the mosaic-G5 modules have been specifically crafted to address the evolving requirements of the market. The broad mosaic product portfolio provides users with a range of options to choose from based on their specific needs and application scenarios.

For instance, the triple-band mosaic-G5 P1 offers entry-level, high-performance positioning, making it an ideal choice for applications like inspection drones or robotic mowers. On the other hand, the quad-band mosaic-G5 P3 and the triple-band heading module mosaic-G5 P3H are tailored to deliver robust positioning reliability in challenging environments, catering to applications such as delivery drones or light show drones.

Moreover, the mosaic-G5 P3H module stands out for its ability to calculate heading with exceptional accuracy, allowing for precise navigation of small autonomous devices by maintaining a uniquely small distance between two GNSS antennas, known as the baseline.

These new modules complement the existing mosaic product line, with the renowned mosaic-X5 receiver continuing to set the standard for GNSS open signal anti-jamming and anti-spoofing resilience in a compact form factor. The compatibility of the new mosaic-G5 modules with popular open-source autopilots like PX4 and ArduPilot streamlines the development process, reducing time and complexity.

Furthermore, the availability of the Mosaic-Go G5 evaluation kit simplifies testing by providing direct connections to autopilots, while the user-friendly RxTools interface facilitates setup and evaluation processes. Samples of the mosaic-G5 P1, mosaic-G5 P3, and mosaic-G5 P3H modules are currently accessible, with volume orders set to be fulfilled later this year, offering a glimpse into the future of high-precision positioning technology.
