Vishay Intertechnology has introduced four new 1 A and 2 A 1200 V Hyperfast rectifiers to its Gen 7 FRED Pt® platform, catering to the industrial and automotive sectors. These rectifiers, also known as 1200 V fast recovery diodes, are packaged in the compact SlimSMA HV (DO-221AC) package. The company promises that these new components will deliver efficiency improvements, robust performance, and reduced Bill of Materials (BOM) costs.

For engineers and designers in the high-voltage systems realm, this launch opens up fresh possibilities. The compact size, thermal efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of these devices make them particularly valuable for those working on EV power electronics, industrial drives, and high-frequency power supplies.

Compact Design and Rapid Recovery

The newly introduced rectifiers, such as the VS-E7JX0112-M3 and VS-E7JX0212-M3, also have AEC-Q101 qualified versions: VS-E7JX0112HM3 and VS-E7JX0212HM3. These components boast rapid recovery times as low as 45 ns, a typical reverse recovery charge (Qrr) of 105 nC, and a forward voltage drop as low as 1.45 V. With a junction capacitance of just 2.5 pF, these rectifiers help minimize switching losses.

The SlimSMA HV package, measuring 2.6 x 5.2 mm with a slim profile of 0.95 mm, is significantly thinner than the traditional SMA package. This design can handle surge currents of up to 21 A, offering a 3.2 mm creepage distance and a high comparative tracking index (CTI ≥ 600). Vishay emphasizes that this design reduces component count and costs while ensuring compliance with IEC 60664-1 standards for high-voltage applications.

Applications in EVs, Drives, and Power Supplies

These rectifiers are designed for use in clamp, snubber, and freewheeling applications in flyback auxiliary power supplies, bootstrap drivers, and desaturation protection circuits. Their applications span from on-board chargers and EV motors to industrial tools, renewable energy systems, and LED lighting converters.

Featuring a planar structure and platinum-doped lifetime control, Vishay underscores the reliability and robustness of these rectifiers, which can operate at temperatures up to +175 °C. Additionally, the components are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and have a Moisture Sensitivity Level of 1 per J-STD-020.
