Volvo is showing its fleet of 20 electric XC40 taxis with wireless charging from InductEV.

The fleet has logged 7,000 wireless charging events over the last two years of operation in Sweden, with 100MWh of inductive power transfers.

Wireless hands-free charging is the only viable, long-term solution for autonomous taxi fleets, says InductEV, formerly Momentum Dynamics.

The two year Gothenburg Green City Zone project has seen 100% uptime on all charging stations in rain, snow, hot, cold, dirt, and icy conditions without the need for apps, tags or credit cards were needed for payment

Volvo Cars has now selected the pilot wireless charging taxi programme to be showcased at World of Volvo, a 237,000 sq ft. experience centre in Gothenburg.

“Volvo Cars and its hometown city of Gothenburg have been tremendous partners in putting our inductive charging technology to the test,” said John Rizzo, President and CEO of InductEV. “We are glad it lived up to their expectations and honoured to have it showcased as one of the many compelling displays on the future-forward World of Volvo.”

The InductEV wireless charging technology is deployed across North America and Europe and with 105 patents worldwide and 118 in process.
