AMD, Fujitsu form AI computing partnership

Processor company AMD and Japan’s Fujitsu Ltd. are forming a partnership to make and sell AI and high-performance computing systems together.

Fujitsu is developing its 2nm Monaka chip, an Arm-based processor, which it is intends to combine with AMD Instinct AI accelerators, AMD said. The combination of Monaka CPU and Instinct GPU will provide an option for AI workload processing in the data center, AMD said.

The AMD-Fujitsu partnership covers engineering, supporting ecosystem, sales and marketing with joint development of computing platforms for AI and HPC expected in 2027, AMD said.

“Through this strategic partnership with AMD, Fujitsu seeks to accelerate open-source AI initiatives with a shared vision of achieving sustainable computing platforms,” said Vivek Mahajan, CTO of Fujitsu, in a statement issued by AMD.
