Ashling and Embecosm have teamed up to provide a comprehensive, optimized toolchain for Akeana’s range of high-performance RISC-V processors.
Akeana has developed a single database that can produce a range of low power, high-performance, scalable processors, Ashling and Embecosm have worked closely to deliver an optimized tool chain, tailored specifically for Akeana’s diverse range of devices, from microcontrollers to datacentre-grade multi-core systems.
The tool chain enables designers using the Akeana RISC-V IP to maximize the performance and flexibility of Akeana’s coherent and non-coherent processor systems with seamless integration into their development workflows.

The two companies have been working together for several years on tools for RISC-V cores, with compilers from Embecosm in the UK and embedded development tools from Ashling in the US, including the RiscFree IDE & Debugger as well as the OpellaXD Debug probe and the Vitra-XS Trace probe.
“Akeana’s processors, including the Akeana 100, 1000, and 5000 series, provide industry-leading performance across a wide range of markets, including AI acceleration, networking, datacenter, wearables, mobile, and automotive, empowering our customers to innovate faster,” said Rabin Sugumar, Akeana’s CEO.
“The collaboration between Ashling and Embecosm ensures that the toolchain, IDE, debug, and trace support are available across the entire Akeana product portfolio, empowering customers to achieve optimal results in the fastest time for their SoC designs,” he added.
The optimized toolchain also provides access to the GNU GCC compiler tailored to the specific needs of Akeana’s multi-core processors.
“The combined strength of both companies’ tools and services ensures that Akeana’s customers can confidently integrate their IP into complex SoC designs with minimal risk, reducing development complexity and accelerating timelines,” said Hugh O’Keeffe, Ashling’s CEO.
“With a global presence spanning offices in the US, India, UK, Ireland, France, and Germany, Ashling and Embecosm continue to serve a broad range of customers, from Tier 1 semiconductor companies to emerging startups,” he added.
