Kvaser, a leading provider of CAN interfaces, has developed a groundbreaking M.2 slot compatible board that allows users to add four CAN or CAN FD interfaces to their PCs or computers. Known as the 'M.2 PCIe 4xCAN' (also referred to as 01333-9), this innovative board is designed to work seamlessly with PCI Express M.2 slots featuring B or M keying.

The M.2 PCIe 4xCAN board consists of a main 22 x 80 x 2mm M.2 board, along with four smaller satellite boards that house the CAN transceivers and their connectors. This unique layout enables the satellite boards to be positioned in close proximity to the CAN networks themselves, thereby maximizing signal speed and integrity. As a result, the board is particularly well-suited for CAN FD applications.

With a cable length of 300mm, each CAN channel on the M.2 PCIe 4xCAN board is individually galvanically isolated. The board offers a time stamp resolution of 1μs and supports up to 20,000 messages per second per channel. Additionally, it features silent mode, error frame detection, and generation capabilities.

For users requiring more than four CAN channels, multiple M.2 PCIe 4xCAN boards can be combined to provide 12 or more channels. The board operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -40 to 85°C.

Kvaser also offers an SDK (software development kit) called CANlib, which is compatible with both Windows and Linux operating systems. This comprehensive toolkit further enhances the functionality and versatility of the M.2 PCIe 4xCAN board.

The M.2 PCIe 4xCAN board has a wide range of potential applications, including motor control for mobile robots, automated driving simulation black boxes, medical automation data acquisition, fleet management, and industrial system monitoring.
