Intel, the renowned technology company, has announced its plans to acquire Silicon Mobility, a French fabless silicon and software company specializing in System-on-Chips (SoCs) for intelligent Electric Vehicle (EV) energy management. This strategic move by Intel aligns with its sustainability goals and aims to address a critical energy management need in the automotive industry.

"Intel is taking a 'whole vehicle' approach to solving the industry's biggest challenges," states Jack Weast, Vice President of Intel. "The acquisition of Silicon Mobility aligns with our sustainability goals while addressing a critical energy management need for the industry."

Silicon Mobility, a portfolio company of Cipio Partners and Capital-E, has developed SoCs with purpose-built accelerators for energy delivery. These SoCs are co-designed with software algorithms to enhance vehicle energy efficiency. By acquiring Silicon Mobility, Intel will expand its technology portfolio in the automotive sector, moving beyond high-performance computing and venturing into intelligent and programmable power devices.

The increasing demand for in-vehicle experiences, coupled with the transition to Electric Vehicles, has fueled Intel's strategy to enable the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV). In line with this strategy, Intel has also committed to delivering the industry's first open UCIe-based chiplet platform for SDVs. To ensure the quality and reliability of these packaging technologies, Intel will collaborate with imec, a leading research and innovation hub. Additionally, Intel will chair a new international standard for EV power management, further solidifying its position as an industry leader.

With its expanded AI-enhanced "whole vehicle" roadmap, Intel aims to drive the industry towards a more scalable, software-defined, and sustainable future. By acquiring Silicon Mobility and investing in cutting-edge technologies, Intel is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of EV energy management and the overall automotive industry.
