Molex Opens Production Campus in Katowice, Poland

Molex, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, has recently inaugurated a new production campus in Katowice, Poland. The facility, spanning an initial 23,000m2, will serve as a strategic central location for the delivery of medical devices for Phillips-Medisize, which is also owned by Molex. Additionally, the campus will cater to the production of electric vehicle and electrification solutions. Molex has invested $110 million in the facility so far, with plans for future expansion up to 85,000m2. This expansion will complement Molex's existing sites in Rokitki and Sulęcin.

The capabilities of the new campus will include medical device assembly, packaging, drug handling, and injection molding. Furthermore, the facility will manufacture battery connectors and high-power busbars for the medical device, electric vehicle, and electrification markets. Molex's decision to establish the campus in Katowice was influenced by the abundance of skilled manufacturing and engineering resources in the area. At full capacity, the campus is expected to employ approximately 350 individuals, including skilled production operators, design engineers, and quality specialists.

Notably, the new Molex campus in Katowice will be the first site for both Molex and Phillips-Medisize to hold LEED Gold sustainability certification, which is the second highest level of certification out of four. The facility is also in the process of obtaining ISO 13485 certification, with plans for additional certifications and registrations in the future.

In addition to the new campus in Katowice, Molex and Phillips-Medisize have operations in various locations around the world. These include Donegal and Sligo in Ireland, Struer in Denmark, Trhove Sviny in the Czech Republic, and two locations in Kontiolahti, Finland.

Poland is home to several other Koch companies, including Guardian Glass, SRG Global, Infor, and Koch Business Solutions. Collectively, these companies employ over 2,000 people in the country.
