Rohm, a leading semiconductor manufacturer, has announced the addition of a new lineup of 600V super-junction MOSFETs. These MOSFETs come in a compact 6.5 x 7 x 1.66mm SOT-223-3 packaging, making them ideal for power supplies and motor control applications.

"In recent years, power supplies for lighting and motors for pumps have become more sophisticated, requiring smaller and more compact MOSFETs for efficient switching operation," said a spokesperson from Rohm. "However, reducing the size while maintaining a balance between breakdown voltage and on-resistance has been a challenge."

Rohm has overcome this challenge by altering the shape of the package's mounted chip, resulting in the development of five SOT-223-3 MOSFETs. These MOSFETs offer a reduced area and thickness, while still maintaining back-compatibility with the TO-252 footprint. This means that existing PCBs can be used without any modifications.

Out of the new MOSFETs, three are optimized for power supplies, while the remaining two are designed for motor control applications. The R6004END4 MOSFET is characterized by low noise, making it suitable for applications where noise reduction is critical. On the other hand, the R6003KND4 and R6006KND4 MOSFETs are capable of high-speed switching, making them ideal for applications that require fast switching times.

The R6002JND4 and R6003JND4 MOSFETs utilize proprietary technology to achieve lower switching losses by speeding up reverse recovery time. These MOSFETs are particularly well-suited for motor control applications.

These new MOSFETs from Rohm are expected to find applications in a wide range of industries, including lighting, air conditioners, refrigerators, pumps, fans, and copiers. With their compact size and excellent performance characteristics, they offer an ideal solution for designers looking to optimize their power supply and motor control systems.
