Rambus, a leading technology company, has recently unveiled a new family of power management ICs (PMICs) designed specifically for the latest DDR5 memory chips used in data center applications. This development marks a significant advancement in memory interface technology, catering to the increasing demands of modern data center environments.
The Rambus DDR5 family encompasses a range of components essential for DDR5 server memory modules, including Registering Clock Drivers (RCD), PMIC, SPD Hub, and Temperature Sensor ICs. These components work together seamlessly to optimize memory performance and efficiency in data center applications, ensuring smooth operation and enhanced capabilities.
One of the key components in the DDR5 memory architecture is the PMIC, which plays a crucial role in enabling additional memory channels, higher capacity modules, and improved bandwidth. The Rambus DDR5 server PMIC family consists of products tailored to meet various specifications, such as the JEDEC extreme current with the PMIC5020, high current with the PMIC5000, and low current with the PMIC5010, suitable for RDIMM memory modules.
Sean Fan, the chief operating officer at Rambus, emphasized the importance of these advancements, stating, “Advanced data center workloads like generative AI require the highest bandwidth and capacity server RDIMMs tailored to meet ever-increasing memory needs of a growing data pipeline.” With the introduction of the new server PMIC family, Rambus aims to provide customers with a comprehensive memory interface chipset that supports multiple DDR5 server platform generations.
Soo-Kyoum Kim, VP of memory semiconductors at IDC, highlighted the significance of DDR5 memory modules in delivering enhanced memory performance within specified power constraints. Kim noted, “Rambus, a proven volume supplier of on-module memory interface chips, is well-positioned to supply the critical PMIC components required by DDR5 memory module manufacturers.” This endorsement underscores Rambus's expertise and reliability in the memory technology sector.
The Rambus DDR5 PMIC5020, PMIC5000, and PMIC5010 are now available for purchase, offering data center operators and memory module manufacturers access to cutting-edge power management solutions designed to optimize DDR5 memory performance.
