Picocom, a leading 5G Open RAN baseband semiconductor and software specialist, has recently announced a significant collaboration with Wave Electronics, a prominent developer and manufacturer of 5G base station equipment. Wave Electronics has integrated Picocom’s cutting-edge PC802 system-on-chip (SoC) into its latest Open RAN product, the WEH47-TM24B radio unit (O-RU).

Excitingly, Picocom will be joining forces with Wave Electronics to unveil the new deployment-ready O-RU in a live end-to-end demonstration at the highly anticipated MWC Barcelona 2024 event, scheduled to take place from 26th to 29th February 2024.

Furthermore, Wave Electronics has made a commitment to leverage Picocom’s innovative PC805 device, known for its small footprint and low power consumption. The PC805 is recognized as the industry’s first SoC designed specifically for 5G small cell Open RAN radio units. This device will be integrated into Wave Electronics' upcoming Open RAN products, set to hit the market later in 2024.

YJ Lee, the CEO of Wave Electronics, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “We’ve been working closely with Picocom to optimize our O-RU equipment based on the PC802. Our successful interoperability and certification testing with a Korean private 5G network operator in 2023 paved the way for our future products, which will feature Picocom’s advanced PC805 device.”

Peter Claydon, President at Picocom, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “I’m thrilled to showcase Wave Electronics’ latest O-RU incorporating our PC802 at MWC 2024. We are excited about their transition to the PC805, which will unlock the full potential of our SoC for their next-generation products. This collaboration underscores Picocom’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge technology to our customers.”
