European operator Sateliot is gearing up to launch four satellites in collaboration with ExoLaunch and SpaceX next month, marking a significant milestone in the company's journey towards providing commercial IoT services using cutting-edge 5G technology.
Spanish operator Sateliot is set to introduce a groundbreaking 5G-IoT satellite service with the deployment of four 6U CubeSats. These satellites will enable the connection of unmodified commercial cellular NB-IoT NTN devices from space, in partnership with German rideshare provider ExoLaunch.
The highly anticipated launch is scheduled to take place aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California in July. This development comes on the heels of securing €200 million in contracts from 400 customers, underscoring the growing demand for advanced satellite-based IoT solutions.
Sateliot has ambitious plans to expand its satellite constellation by 2025 and is currently in the process of finalizing its €30 million Series B funding round. The company's strategic vision and innovative approach have positioned it as a key player in the evolving landscape of satellite-enabled IoT connectivity.
Having raised €25 million in funding since 2018, including a significant contribution from Banco Santander, Sateliot is well on its way to achieving its long-term revenue targets. The company projects revenues of €500 million by 2027 and an impressive €1 billion by 2030, fueling the deployment of a proposed constellation of 250 CubeSats.
Each of the four 10kg CubeSat 6U satellites, measuring 20 x 10 x 35cm, comes with a price tag of €500,000. These satellites will orbit at an altitude of approximately 600 kilometers and boast a lifespan of over five years. The advanced technology employed by Sateliot will provide seamless connectivity to over eight million devices already subscribed to the service, leveraging the robust infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the core network.
"With this upcoming launch, Sateliot is poised to enter a new era of IoT connectivity, positioning Spain at the forefront of global innovation in this space," remarked Jaume Sanpera, CEO and co-founder of Sateliot. The collaboration with ExoLaunch represents a significant milestone in Sateliot's mission to revolutionize 5G IoT connectivity from space, underscoring the company's commitment to driving technological advancements in the industry.
Expressing enthusiasm about the partnership, Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Sateliot, highlighted the pivotal role of ExoLaunch in ensuring the successful deployment of the next four satellites. Pablo Lobo, mission manager at ExoLaunch, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the company's dedication to supporting innovative European ventures like Sateliot in their quest to advance 5G IoT connectivity through space-based solutions.
As the launch campaign gains momentum, the industry eagerly anticipates the seamless deployment of these satellites later this year, marking a significant leap forward in the realm of satellite-enabled IoT services.
