UK design house Direct Insight has recently introduced a cutting-edge system on module (SoM) utilizing the latest dual-core 64-bit microprocessor from STMicroelectronics. The TRITON-TXMP2 SoM module is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core ARM Coretex-A35 STM32MP255 processor, equipped with a neural processing unit (NPU) tailored for edge AI applications. This innovative module is designed to operate seamlessly across an industrial temperature range, making it a versatile solution for various industrial applications.

David Pashley, the CEO of Direct Insight, highlighted the exceptional features of the TRITON-TXMP2, stating that it offers outstanding graphics, video, and NPU performance within a full -40 to +85 C temperature-range SoM. Pashley emphasized that the module is competitively priced and targets a wide range of industrial HMI solutions, as well as streaming video capture and display devices.

MicroSys, a key player in the industry, has recently signed a significant deal with Direct Insights to collaborate on the NXP SoM project. This partnership is expected to bring further advancements in the field of system on modules, leveraging the expertise of both companies to deliver cutting-edge solutions to the market.

The compact TRITON-TXMP2 SoM module, measuring 68mm x 26mm, boasts impressive specifications including 1GB LPDDR4, 4GB eMMC Flash, and a 24-bit RGB display output powered by a 3D GPU. With robust video support capabilities, the processor can handle 1080P60 video decode and encode, along with dual MIPI-DSI camera inputs. The module also offers comprehensive connectivity options, including dual Ethernet, FlexCAN, SD/eMMC, USB 2.0, PCIe, USB 3.0, UARTs, I2C ports, and SPI.

Featuring a Vivante NPU that delivers 1.3TOPS of ML/AI processing and a third MCU processor core based on an ARM Cortex-M33, the TRITON-TXMP2 SoM is a powerhouse of performance and versatility. It comes bundled with a Yocto-packaged Linux BSP with full sources and an installable VM for development purposes. Manufactured by Ka-Ro Electronics in Germany, the module offers a guaranteed lifetime of 10 years, making it a reliable choice for both small and large-scale industrial projects.
