TSMC’s May Sales Decline

Foundry giant TSMC experienced a slight dip in revenue for the month of May, with a 2.7 percent decline compared to the previous month. However, the company's performance remained strong when looking at year-over-year figures, as May 2024 revenue was up by an impressive 30.1 percent compared to May 2023.

The total sales reported by TSMC for May amounted to NT$229.62 billion, which translates to approximately US$7.09 billion. This figure reflects the company's continued position as a key player in the semiconductor industry, despite the minor monthly setback.

Looking at the broader picture, TSMC's cumulative sales for the first five months of 2024 reached NT$1.06 trillion, equivalent to around US$32.67 billion. This represents a substantial 27.0 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, showcasing the company's sustained growth trajectory.

Meanwhile, fellow Taiwanese foundry UMC also saw positive results in May, with sales reaching NT$19.51 billion (approximately US$602 million), marking a 3.9 percent increase from May 2023. UMC's year-to-date sales stood at NT$93.88 billion (about US$2.90 billion), reflecting a 2.7 percent growth compared to the first five months of the previous year.

Despite the slight monthly decline in revenue, TSMC's overall performance remains robust, with the company continuing to lead the foundry market. Investors and industry analysts are closely monitoring TSMC's strategic moves and financial results as the semiconductor landscape evolves.
