Pickering Electronics Introduces High Voltage Surface Mount Reed Relays
Pickering Electronics, a leading manufacturer of reed relays, has recently unveiled its latest product, the Series 219 high voltage surface mount reed relays. These relays are available in multiple package types, all of which can switch up to 1000V in various contact configurations. With their high voltage capabilities, the Series 219 relays are ideal for a wide range of applications, including semiconductor testing, medical equipment testing, EV charge point testing, and solar cell efficiency monitoring.
Within the Series 219 range, customers can choose from three coil voltages: 3V, 5V, or 12V. The relays offer impressive switch stand-off capabilities, ranging from 1.5kV to 3kV, depending on the package type. Additionally, the switch-coil isolation can withstand up to 5kV stand-off in certain configurations. The relays have a maximum switching capacity of 0.7A and 10W, and they can operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.
One notable feature of the Series 219 relays is the inclusion of a diode option. This diode is designed to protect the relay coil from back electromotive force (emf) that occurs when the current flow to the coil is interrupted. By preventing voltage spikes, the diode helps safeguard other components on the PCB board.
"What sets our Series 219 relays apart is the availability of 2 Form A and 1 Form B packages," explains Robert King, a representative from Pickering Electronics. "The 2 Form A configuration allows for two switches in the same footprint, optimizing board space. With the 1 Form B option, users have access to a normally closed relay that is not commonly found in the market."
In addition to the standard build options, Pickering Electronics offers customization services for the Series 219 Reed Relay. This ensures that customers can tailor the relay to their specific application requirements. The company prides itself on using high-quality instrument-grade switches with appropriate switch blade coatings to meet the demands of various currents and voltages. The relays also feature SoftCenter technology, which minimizes internal stresses on the reed switch, resulting in extended life and contact resistance stability. Furthermore, the relays are equipped with magnetic Mu-Metal shielding and electrostatic screening to prevent faulty operation.
