French sensor maker Lynred has introduced its latest innovation in the form of the Seegnus compact high-resolution midwave (MWIR) ‘HOT’ (High Operating Temperature) infrared sensor. This cutting-edge sensor boasts the capability to detect individuals at an impressive distance of 14km, making it a significant advancement in the field of infrared technology.
The Seegnus HOT infrared sensor features an SXGA resolution of 1280 x 1024 and a small pixel pitch of 7.5µm, specifically designed for manufacturers of long-range/large Field-of-View (FoV) miniature infrared systems. Compared to Lynred’s earlier VGA model, this new sensor offers a notable 20% increase in Detection/Reconnaissance/Identification (DRI) range performance, enhancing its overall effectiveness.
When paired with the latest 220mm folded compact f/4 COTS optics, the Seegnus sensor demonstrates remarkable capabilities. It can detect individuals up to 14.5km away in a 630m width imaged scene, while also enabling recognition at a distance of 3.9km in a 170m width imaged scene. This level of precision and range performance opens up new possibilities for various applications.
Lynred has initiated a new EU project aimed at developing electronics tailored for IR sensors, further solidifying its position as a leader in the industry. The infrared sensor’s low acoustic noise and minimal power consumption of under 3.5W make it ideal for integration into lightweight, durable, and stealthy packaging for long-range imaging in tactical gear.
