Israeli smart glass developer Gauzy has introduced its groundbreaking AI-enabled ADAS driver assistance system for commercial trucks. This innovative system marks a significant advancement in road safety technology, with Ford Trucks being one of the first OEMs to adopt the Gauzy Smart-Vision camera monitor system (CMS) ADAS system. The primary goal of this system is to enhance road safety and reduce fuel consumption for commercial truck drivers.
The Smart-Vision system is designed to provide real-time alerts to drivers, helping them avoid accidents and navigate roadway hazards more effectively. By integrating high-definition cameras and interior displays in place of traditional mirrors, the system offers a comprehensive view of the truck's surroundings. This includes rear-, front-, and side-view perspectives, enabling drivers to make informed decisions while on the road.
Powered by self-learning and predictive AI capabilities using chips from Ambarella, the Smart-Vision system displays adaptive manoeuvre lines to assist drivers in gauging distances and avoiding obstacles. This feature is particularly useful during trailer calibration, where drivers need to accurately assess the space between the trailer and potential obstructions. By addressing depth perception limitations inherent in traditional mirrors, the system enhances overall safety and maneuverability.
One of the standout features of the Gauzy ADAS system is its backward panning functionality, which provides drivers with enhanced visibility while reversing. Additionally, an extra panning option eliminates blind spots during turns, significantly reducing the risk of accidents. By leveraging advanced technology and innovative design, Gauzy has set a new standard for safety in the commercial trucking industry.
Furthermore, the system is equipped with collision avoidance/detection technology and blind spot information systems (BSIS) to further enhance safety measures. By utilizing AI to detect potential hazards in real-time and alerting drivers promptly, the system minimizes the risk of accidents involving other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, or obstructions. This proactive approach to safety is crucial in addressing the challenges faced by commercial truck drivers on the road.
