Calterah Semiconductor is expanding its European localisation as it presents its mmWave radar technology at electronica 2024.

The mmWave radar devices are designed for next generation automotive and industrial applications, including ADAS, in-cabin monitoring, and indoor sensing, Calterah aims to redefine standards in safety, intelligence, and efficiency within the automotive and industrial sectors.

The early adoption of CMOS technology has allowed Calterah to introduce the world’s first fully-integrated 77 GHz and 60 GHz CMOS mmWave radar chips, offering automotive-grade reliability and performance at competitive costs. By the end of Q3 2024, Calterah’s radar shipments surpassed 10 million units.

Among the key innovations Calterah will show at electronica are the Andes Flex-Cascading solution enabling a powerful imaging radar system, and the AiP (Antenna in Package) technology, which delivers compact, energy-efficient radar solutions tailored to short-range applications such as door radar and in-cabin monitoring.

These technologies are expected to accelerate the advancement of autonomous driving and support safer, more intuitive in-car experiences. By focusing on compact, scalable solutions, Calterah’s offerings address essential market trends in size, performance, and energy efficiency.

“As autonomous features develop, we anticipate tremendous growth in areas like in-cabin sensing and health monitoring,” said Dirk Jürgens, General Manager of Calterah EMEA. “Our mmWave radar solutions are designed to enhance safety and convenience through accurate, non-invasive sensing, addressing the need for more intuitive and privacy-conscious monitoring features.”

Calterah’s approach to radar technology extends beyond conventional ADAS, preparing for advanced autonomous systems with radars that ensure precise object detection, high-speed data handling, and smooth integration with autonomous driving technology.

Calterah’s radar technology is also aimed at industrial sectors, from security and elderly care to smart home innovations. Growing demand for radar-based solutions beyond the automotive sector fuels Calterah’s growth plans. “Our focus on adaptability and innovation allows us to meet diverse needs across automotive and industrial markets,” said Jürgens.

Calterah is also exploring V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication capabilities, which could enable vehicle radar systems to connect with roadside infrastructure, adding an extra layer of safety and functionality to autonomous ecosystems.

The company is also investing in localized support in Europe. “With our new office fully operational, we are building a skilled team to provide hands-on support to European customers, including Tier-1 suppliers and OEMs,” he said.

Future plans also include establishing a local software team to develop solutions tailored to the European and North American markets.
