The European Union and India have solidified their partnership by signing a cooperation deal focused on advancing 6G technologies and enhancing talent exchange in the semiconductor industry. This significant agreement was reached during the second meeting of the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) held in New Delhi. The discussions at the meeting spanned various crucial topics such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, High-Performance Computing, 6G technology, and automotive advancements.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to collaborate on joint research and development initiatives in chip design, heterogeneous integration, sustainable semiconductor technologies, and technology development for advanced processes. Additionally, both parties are working on establishing a dedicated program aimed at facilitating talent exchanges and nurturing semiconductor skills among students and young professionals.

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Bharat 6G Alliance and the EU 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association to align research and development priorities for 6G technology. The focus is on ensuring resilient supply chains and promoting interoperable global standards as 6G technology continues to evolve and mature.

Another significant development from the meeting was the agreement on joint research calls related to the recycling of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). A substantial amount of funding, totaling €60 million from the Horizon Europe program and matching Indian contributions, will be allocated to this initiative. The primary focus of this collaboration is to enhance battery circularity by exploring various types of flexible, low-cost, and easy-to-recycle batteries.

Moreover, the EU and India are exploring opportunities for cooperation in harmonizing standards for EV charging infrastructure. This includes collaborative efforts in early-stage research for harmonized testing and knowledge exchange in the field of e-mobility. These initiatives aim to drive innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle sector.
