The BeQCI consortium, consisting of three organizations and funded by the European Union and the Belgian Science Policy Office, is at the forefront of creating a secure quantum communication network in Belgium. One of the key milestones of the BeQCI project is the establishment of the first QKD link in Belgium, connecting two campuses of Ghent University. Additionally, a second link connecting Redu and Transinne will be utilized by the European Space Agency and the Centre d'Excellence en Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication (CETIC) to secure IoT data transfer.
Another important aspect of the BeQCI project is the connection of two data centers of Belnet through a third QKD link. This link will facilitate internal secure data transfer, enhancing the overall cybersecurity posture of the organization.
