Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK) has introduced a cutting-edge test system featuring remote power probes designed to elevate the precision of power measurements across various applications.
The newly launched HBK Fusion Probes are engineered to enhance the accuracy of power measurements in a diverse range of scenarios, from basic electric component testing to dynamic automotive drive cycle assessments and intricate aerospace copper bird tests. These probes are versatile and can be seamlessly integrated into industrial, automotive, and aerospace applications.
One of the key advantages of the Fusion Probes is their ability to be detached from the power analyser receiver card and mainframe, allowing them to be positioned in close proximity to the measurement point. This setup significantly reduces electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) interference. The utilisation of fibre-optical connection cables and digital data transfer between the probes and mainframe ensures rapid and disturbance-free data transmission to the mainframe.
Spectris, a leading provider of precision instrumentation and controls, has further bolstered HBK by integrating piezoelectric sensor technology into its business operations.
The Fusion Probes can be seamlessly integrated into distributed measurement systems, with modules strategically placed near the Device under Test (DuT), facilitating precise measurements. This feature makes the probes ideal for large-scale measurement tasks, as the channel count can be scaled from 4 power channels to 68 power channels within a single power analyser mainframe.
By siting the Fusion Probes in close proximity to the DuT, ultra-short high voltage cables can be employed, eliminating intrinsic and emitted noise while averting reflections commonly observed in lengthy cables that can compromise measurement data quality. The fibre-optical connection back to the power analyser acts as an additional safety measure, safeguarding users from hazardous high voltages.
The fibre-optically isolated remote probes are available in packages containing 4 or 8 power channels, boasting a sample rate of 2 MS/s. These power analyser packages offer unparalleled accuracy in the industry and can be expanded with additional inputs for temperature, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), or various bus connections. They are accompanied by the Perception ePower software suite, which facilitates setup, real-time power analysis, and post-processing capabilities.
