The latest offering from Infineon, the PSOC™ Control family of MCUs, is designed to revolutionize the field of motor control and power conversion applications. These MCUs, powered by the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core, bring a host of on-board functionalities that optimize and accelerate critical operations such as current measurement, waveform generation, and real-time performance in target system applications.

One of the standout features of these new MCUs is the clock speed of up to 180 MHz, coupled with high-performance analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and high-resolution pulse-width-modulation (PWM) capabilities (<100 ps). Additionally, the integrated CORDIC Accelerator off-loads real-time control tasks from the CPU, resulting in enhanced system performance. The CORDIC's synchronous "idle" sampling of analog signals from the single core ADC is up to 25 percent faster without sampling jitter, leading to significant efficiency gains.

Steve Tateosian, SVP of IoT and Industrial MCUs at Infineon Technologies, highlighted the significance of the new PSOC Control MCUs, stating, "The new device family will enable system designers to deliver innovative, energy-saving devices to both high-volume and specialized markets." With features like on-board analog functionality, high-performance timers, and hardware math acceleration, these MCUs are poised to drive performance and efficiency in next-generation applications.

Moreover, the PSOC Control family supports the design of power electronics based on wide-band gap (WBG) technologies like Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN). By leveraging these advanced technologies, system designers can enhance performance and reduce overall bill-of-material costs, making the PSOC Control MCUs a compelling choice for cutting-edge applications.

For developers looking to expedite their time-to-market, Infineon offers support through the ModusToolbox™ Software ecosystem. This modular development platform includes building blocks for product evaluation and production, covering areas such as Field-Oriented Control (FOC) of motors, power conversion algorithms, and device drivers. The ModusToolbox Motor Suite further extends the capabilities of the ecosystem, providing a comprehensive solution for motor control applications.
