Promwad, an electronics design house based in Lithuania, has created the UFS IP core as a scalable and ready-to-use solution for engineering projects with Universal Flash Storage. This high-performance flash memory interface employs the benefits of SSD and eMMC, empowering engineers with high-speed and low-power data storage.
With UFS, power consumption is dramatically reduced, leading to a significant increase in the battery life of mobile devices with high-resolution displays during video playback and graphics processing.
Here are the key features of the UFS IP core designed by Promwad:
The diagram below represents the key components of the UFS solution based on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale+ FPGA board with a GTY transceiver:
The webpage for the UFS IP by Promwad contains additional diagrams and technical documentation demonstrating this scalable core’s versatility, which is suitable for a range of devices, including mobile phones and servers.
The UFS IP core is encrypted and can be customised for each client’s specific engineering and business needs. Now, Promwad plans to implement their design on regular I/O instead of GTY transceivers to significantly reduce the cost of the final devices because it would allow using UFS on significantly cheaper FPGAs.
