Pickering Interfaces has recently unveiled a groundbreaking series of low leakage switches designed specifically for very low current driven-guard measurements in semiconductor parametric test applications. These cutting-edge switches are set to revolutionize the way semiconductor testing is conducted, offering enhanced precision and reliability.

The new cross-platform switches, available in PXI, PXIe, and LXI versions, cater to semiconductor test systems like wafer acceptance testing (WAT). They are built on the switched guard design principle, ensuring isolation resistances of up to 10^13 ohms. This level of isolation is crucial for maintaining accurate measurements in demanding semiconductor testing environments.

The product family comprises three distinct ranges, each offering a variety of switching topologies to suit different testing requirements. The PXI module, known as model 40-121, features SPST (13 or 26) or 2:1 (8 or 16) multiplexer configurations. On the other hand, the PXI/PXIe modules, models 40-590 and 42-590, provide matrix functionality in 8x4 or 16x4 configurations. Meanwhile, the LXI model 65-290 is based on Pickering's established 2U LXI modular chassis (model 65-200) and supports up to six 8x16 or 16x16 matrix plug-ins.

To address the need for scalability in future test systems, the PXI/PXIe models 40/42-590 and LXI model 65-290 come equipped with loop-thru functionality. This feature allows for easy expansion of the matrix size by interconnecting adjacent modules within a chassis using standard cables. With this capability, users can achieve flexible matrix sizes of up to 16x96 per chassis, enabling seamless scalability as testing requirements evolve.

Steve Edwards, Switching Product Manager at Pickering, highlighted the use of custom-designed ruthenium sputtered reed relays in the switches, ensuring both high quality and long service life. Pickering also offers standard and custom cable solutions to facilitate integration into users' test systems. Additionally, the company provides a comprehensive three-year warranty on all modules and offers a partner program for developers looking to leverage these innovative solutions in their testing setups.
