ARM's market share in Windows is poised for significant growth, with the company's president, Haas, expressing optimism about surpassing the 50 percent mark in the next five years. In an interview with Reuters ahead of the Computex trade show, Haas highlighted ARM's potential to dominate the Windows ecosystem.

Microsoft, a key player in the tech industry, has long utilized ARM processors in its Surface lineup. The company is now gearing up to introduce a new wave of AI-capable computers based on ARM architecture to rival Apple's offerings. Microsoft's strategy includes leveraging Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon X Elite processors, set to debut in various Windows laptops from different manufacturers and Microsoft's latest Surface devices.

Haas commended Microsoft's efforts in expanding support for ARM, emphasizing the significant progress made in developer tools over the past few years. This shift towards ARM comes as a response to Windows losing market share to Apple, prompting Microsoft to explore alternative options to the traditional x86 architecture.

While AMD has historically been a competitor to Intel in the x86 processor market, Nvidia has carved a niche for itself as a leading GPU supplier in the PC industry. However, with the resurgence of AI applications in data centers, both Nvidia and AMD are rumored to be exploring the development of ARM-based CPUs for Windows PCs. Reports suggest potential collaborations, such as Nvidia partnering with MediaTek Inc. to drive AI computing in various sectors, including automobiles.

Moreover, ARM itself is contemplating a foray into the PC processor market, not only as a licenser of architecture and cores but also as a direct vendor. Recent reports indicate that ARM Holdings plc is planning to establish an AI chip division, with an AI processor slated for release in fall 2025. This move could position ARM as a formidable competitor to established players like Nvidia and AMD, signaling a potential shift in the dynamics of the Windows PC market.
