BAe Systems and Globalfoundries Extend US Defense Partnership

BAE Systems and GlobalFoundries have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the production of secure chips for aerospace and defense systems in the United States. The agreement includes aligning their technology roadmaps and committing to long-term support for the US government's chip manufacturing needs.

As part of the collaboration, the two companies will focus on joint research and development efforts in various key areas, such as advanced semiconductor packaging, gallium nitride on silicon chips, silicon photonics, and advanced technology process development. BAe Systems brings its expertise in microelectronics for defense systems to the table, while GlobalFoundries is known as the largest US-based supplier of secure chips to the Department of Defense.

A notable success story from the partnership is BAe Systems' utilization of GlobalFoundries' 12LP and 12S0 technology platforms to create custom radiation-hardened semiconductor solutions for sensitive space applications. These chips are designed to meet the performance, reliability, and yield standards of GlobalFoundries' commercial offerings, tailored specifically for the aerospace and defense industry's requirements by BAe Systems. Manufactured with the highest level of security, these chips meet the stringent standards set by the Department of Defense, including Trusted Supplier Category 1A.

In another development, BAE Systems has chosen ProteanTecs to provide anticounterfeit chip monitoring solutions, further enhancing the security of its chip production processes.
