The power electronics industry is witnessing a significant transformation with the emergence of innovative solutions like the CoolGaN Drive switches and half-bridge devices. These cutting-edge technologies are designed to address the evolving trends in consumer electronics and industrial applications, including portability, electrification, and weight reduction. As the demand for compact and efficient designs continues to grow, the CoolGaN Drive products offer a compelling solution to meet these requirements.
The new CoolGaN Drive product family is set to revolutionize the industry by enabling improved efficiency, reduced system size, and overall cost savings. This breakthrough technology is ideal for a wide range of applications, from longer-range e-bikes to portable power tools and lighter-weight household appliances such as vacuums, fans, and hairdryers. By leveraging the advanced features of the CoolGaN Drive devices, manufacturers can develop products that are not only more energy-efficient but also more compact and lightweight.
According to Johannes Schoiswohl, Senior Vice President & General Manager of the GaN Systems Business Line at Infineon, "For several years, Infineon has been focused on accelerating innovation in GaN to provide targeted solutions for real-world power challenges. The new CoolGaN Drive product family is another proof point of how we support our customers in developing compact designs with high power density and efficiency through GaN."
The CoolGaN Drive family offers a diverse range of single switches and half bridges with integrated drivers based on the latest CoolGaN Transistors 650 V G5 technology. These components are equipped with advanced features such as a bootstrap diode, loss-free current measurement, and adjustable switch-on and switch-off dV/dt. Additionally, they provide OCP/OTP/SCP protection functions, ensuring the safety and reliability of the system.
By enabling higher switching frequencies, the CoolGaN Drive devices facilitate the development of smaller and more efficient systems with high power density. This not only results in a reduction in system weight but also contributes to a lower carbon footprint. With samples of the half-bridge solutions already available and single-switch samples set to be released in Q4 2024, the CoolGaN Drive products are poised to drive the next wave of innovation in power electronics.
