First purpose-built supercomputer emulator for AI design

Cadence Design Systems, a leading EDA vendor, has recently announced the expansion of its AI supercomputer by incorporating Nvidia’s cutting-edge Blackwell technology. The new Millennium M2000 Supercomputer is built on the foundation of Nvidia HGX B200 systems, RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, and CUDA-X libraries seamlessly integrated with Cadence solver software.

This development comes on the heels of the successful launch of the Millennium M1 Supercomputer in February 2024, which was specifically designed for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations in automotive applications. The M1 Supercomputer utilized GPUs from both Nvidia and AMD, offering flexibility for deployment in the cloud with a minimum of eight GPUs or on-premises with a minimum of 32 GPUs.

The HGX B200, an innovative liquid-cooled eight GPU system, has the capacity to support up to 96 GPUs within a single rack. The RTX Pro 6000 GPU is optimized for rendering tasks, boasting 96GB of GDDR7 memory and compatibility with Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) technology. This unique feature allows each RTX PRO 6000 GPU to be partitioned into up to four fully isolated instances with 24GB each, enabling simultaneous execution of AI and graphics workloads.

Notably, the RTX Pro 6000 is the first universal GPU to offer secure AI capabilities through NVIDIA Confidential Computing, ensuring the protection of AI models and sensitive data from unauthorized access. By providing a physically isolated trusted execution environment, this technology safeguards the entire workload while data is actively in use.

The dedicated Blackwell-based system delivers a remarkable performance boost, offering up to 80 times higher performance compared to CPU-based systems for electronic design automation (EDA), system design and analysis (SDA), and drug discovery applications. Additionally, it provides support for a broader range of solvers and digital twin technologies, enhancing the overall efficiency and reliability of engineering processes.
