According to a recent report by TrendForce, smartphone production in the third quarter of this year saw a significant increase of 13% compared to the previous quarter, reaching a total of 308 million units. This also represents a 6.4% year-on-year increase, breaking an eight-quarter streak of annual declines.

The positive trend is expected to continue into the fourth quarter, with a projected 5-10% quarter-on-quarter increase in production. This indicates a promising outlook for the smartphone industry, as the global downturn in production for 2023 is estimated to be limited to less than 3%, with a total annual output of approximately 1.16 billion units.

Leading the market in Q3 was Samsung, which recorded an 11.5% increase in production, reaching 60.1 million units. However, Apple was not far behind, with its Q3 production climbing by 17.9% to approximately 49.5 million units. Despite this growth, Apple experienced a 1.5% year-on-year market share decline, maintaining its annual production at 2022 levels.

Looking ahead, the re-entry of Huawei with its flagship phones is anticipated to have a significant impact on Apple's production performance in the upcoming year. Huawei's strong presence in the market could potentially challenge Apple's market share and position.

Other notable players in the smartphone industry also saw growth in Q3. Xiaomi, which includes Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO, experienced a substantial jump in production by 22.3%, reaching approximately 42.8 million units. Oppo, which includes Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus, saw a 15.2% increase in its Q3 output, totaling 38.7 million units. Transsion, which includes TECNO, Infinix, and itel, produced 26.5 million units, marking a 5.6% increase quarter-on-quarter. Vivo, including Vivo and iQoo, also saw a rise in Q3 production, reaching 24.5 million units and marking a 6.5% increase.
