SiCrystal, a subsidiary of Rohm, has recently commenced the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Germany with the aim of tripling the production of silicon carbide wafers. The company is strategically adding a new building in the north-east of Nuremberg, directly across from its existing site, dedicated to the production of SiC wafers. This new facility will provide an additional 6,000 square meters of production space and will be outfitted with cutting-edge technology to enhance the efficiency of silicon carbide wafer production.
By 2027, SiCrystal's total production capacity, inclusive of the current building, is projected to be approximately three times greater than it was in 2024. The construction of the new facility is slated for completion by early 2026, signaling a significant advancement in SiCrystal's manufacturing capabilities.
As a key player in the global market for monocrystalline SiC wafers utilized in the fabrication of high-power diodes and MOSFETs for applications such as electric vehicles, photovoltaics, and wind power, SiCrystal supplies leading European chip manufacturers like STMicroelectronics.
