STFC Hartree Enhances Capabilities with Quantum Computing Partnership

Two leading organizations, Quantinuum and the STFC Hartree Centre, have joined forces with the goal of harnessing quantum computing to assist UK businesses and research institutions in unlocking the potential of quantum advantage in various fields such as chemistry, computational biology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

The center's specialists work closely with industry and the research community to explore cutting-edge technologies, enhance team skills, and implement practical digital solutions in supercomputing, data science, and AI.

Quantinuum's H-Series quantum computers are globally recognized as the highest-performing, consistently holding the world record for quantum volume for over three years, currently standing at an impressive 220. In a groundbreaking achievement in April 2024, Quantinuum and Microsoft showcased a demonstration of four reliable logical qubits using quantum error correction, a crucial technology for practical quantum computing.

Moreover, Quantinuum's H-Series computer recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first to attain “three 9s” — 99.9% — two-qubit gate fidelity across all qubit pairs in a production device. This advancement enables fault-tolerant quantum computing and empowers Quantinuum's customers to explore new frontiers in materials development, drug discovery, machine learning, cybersecurity, and financial services.

Formerly known as Cambridge Quantum before its merger with Honeywell Quantum Solutions in 2021, Quantinuum played a pivotal role as a delivery partner for the UK government following the launch of the National Quantum Technologies Programme in 2014.
