Hyundai and Škoda Join Forces for Hydrogen Cars

The Škoda Group in Czechia is embarking on a new journey towards hydrogen mobility expansion through a strategic partnership with Hyundai. As part of the collaboration, Škoda, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, will be integrating Hyundai’s cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell systems and technologies into its projects and products.

This groundbreaking deal encompasses various initiatives, including the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell systems and technologies, research on energy-efficient solutions for mobility projects, and the exploration of hydrogen ecosystem opportunities beyond just transportation. The partnership signifies a significant step towards sustainable practices in the automotive industry.

Meanwhile, major players like BMW and Toyota are gearing up to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles in 2028, leveraging Toyota's fuel cell technology. Renault is also making strides in this direction with plans for the series production of hydrogen-powered vans through its Hyvia joint venture with Plug.

Hyundai’s hydrogen business, operating under the HTWO brand, covers all aspects of the hydrogen value chain. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) in Nošovice, a key player in this partnership, boasts an impressive annual manufacturing capacity of 350,000 vehicles and stands as the largest foreign investment in the Czech Republic.

Expressing optimism about the collaboration, Executive Vice President Ramírez stated, “Our partnership with Škoda Group aims to accelerate hydrogen adoption, contributing to the advancement of hydrogen technology and carbon neutrality globally. Together, we aim to lead the burgeoning hydrogen sector by leveraging synergies between our fuel cell technology and Škoda Group’s mobility projects.”

Škoda Group's CEO, Petr Novotný, emphasized the importance of hydrogen and energy-efficient solutions in shaping a sustainable future for mobility. He highlighted the partnership with Hyundai as a means to explore new markets and deliver innovative, eco-friendly solutions to enhance the global mobility ecosystem.
