Omnivision, a leading provider of advanced imaging solutions, has unveiled a groundbreaking high-dynamic range image sensor featuring TheiaCel technology. This cutting-edge sensor is designed to effectively mitigate LED flicker under any lighting condition, setting a new standard in image quality and performance.
The OX05D10 5-megapixel CMOS image sensor is equipped with Omnivision's proprietary TheiaCel technology, which delivers LED flicker mitigation (LFM) without compromising image quality. This is particularly crucial in applications where high dynamic range (HDR), low-light performance, and LFM are essential. With a remarkable ~140 dB dynamic range using VS exposure for dynamic range extension, as well as over 110 dB LFM and motion-free dynamic range in a single exposure, this sensor offers unparalleled capabilities.
The demand for enhanced LFM, HDR, and high-resolution image sensors is on the rise, driven by the increasing adoption of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD). These technologies require sophisticated imaging solutions that can effectively address challenges such as LED flicker and varying lighting conditions to ensure optimal performance and safety.
One of the key challenges faced by imaging systems in ADAS and AD applications is the interference caused by pulsed illumination from LED traffic lights, which can impact the accurate detection of lighted traffic signs. Omnivision's TheiaCel technology, with its innovative 2.1µm single-pixel design incorporating lateral overflow integration capacitors (LOFIC) and dual conversion gain (DCG) HDR technologies, enables the OX05D10 sensor to capture high-contrast scenes with exceptional clarity and detail.
"The introduction of the OX05D10 represents a significant milestone in our automotive sensor portfolio, showcasing the power of TheiaCel technology," stated Dr. Paul Wu, head of automotive product marketing at Omnivision. "With its ability to deliver high LFM without compromising image quality, the OX05D10 addresses the critical requirements of automotive OEMs, including superior low-light performance, compact size, and low power consumption. By expanding our product range to include both 8MP and 5MP options, we are providing customers with greater flexibility to meet their specific needs."
The OX05D10 5MP sensor supports 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 and a-CSP package technology, enabling the creation of ultra-compact camera solutions. Samples of the OX05D10 are currently available, with mass production scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2025, offering customers early access to this groundbreaking imaging technology.
